Nevertheless

Inasmuch as: (conjunction)  in the degree that, in view of the fact that

Nevertheless: (adverb) in spite of that, even so, still, though, yet.

These may be two of my favorite words.  First, because they don’t look like they could possible be grammatically correct.  Second, because they have great meanings!  I’m not trying to turn this into an English lesson.  (I’m probably the least qualified person to do that, as those of you who read this blog know very well.  Correct grammar does not come easily for me.)  I’m just trying to make a statement that might stick with you.

May we grow in our faith so that we can truly know God, inasmuch as we can understand God’s amazing love, compassion, mercy, grace, patience and kindness towards us.  His mercies are new every morning…thank goodness!  Inasmuch as, meaning “as much as we can possibly wrap our minds around…”.  We will never know the extent (how deep and how wide) His love is for us.  We must strive to be like Christ, inasmuch as is humanly possible.  We will never arrive, we will never attain.  Paul says “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”(Phil 3:12) There are so many applicable ways we can use this word in our faith.

As stated previously, we cannot obtain perfection until we meet Jesus face to face.  Nevertheless, God chose us anyway!  Nevertheless, He will love and protect us!  Nevertheless, He has wiped away our guilt and shame.  Nevertheless, He will always be with us!  “…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:20b) Until the end!  He has gone before us and He is behind us, directing our steps. “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21)

We serve God inasmuch as we possibly can, and we still fall short; nevertheless, He is faithful to complete His work in us.

Our “inasmuch as” is covered by Christ’s “nevertheless”.
